WES 4.PNG

I'm proud to be set up as an independent Civil Engineer, offering Consultancies across the UK

my 20+ years experience and 2d/3d design skills to achieve challenging project targets.

Based in West Yorkshire, UK,  I am a fellow member of the Institute of Highway Engineers [FIHE] and a member of the Institution of Engineers [EngTech MICE].

I apply my knowledge of sustainability; health, safety and welfare; CDM; quality management; appreciate diversity; and understand my responsibilities as a designer, in all the work I do.

I enjoy the technical aspect, using design standards and guidelines, to address constraints and provide solutions.

3d digital design
I have used Civil 3D on a daily basis for over 5 years; used AutoCAD and add on packages such as vehicle tracking, sign design, signal design (including 3d design for BIM models) for over 20 years.
I have used Navisworks and Infraworks to add details to 3d models and compare multi-disciplinary design work, anticipating potential issues through clash detection and discussing solutions. I have worked to BIM Level 2 on several joint venture projects exporting multiple design teams models to one federated model for development and completion. I have awareness of  Infraworks for 3d presentation, having been introduced to the software and its capabilities.
BIM
I have experience in common data environments, working in a collaborative manner (4d BIM) using best practice methods (PAS1192) and meeting CAD standards using Projectwise. I understand the importance of drawing templates and naming conventions for consistent production, organised filing systems, undertaking thorough quality checks, and preparing plans for approval and submission within timescales.
I have developed data from CAD and GIS software for use in costing (5d BIM) and asset lifecycle (6d BIM), using engineering experience to produce detailed technical reports, site assessments, and drawing packages.
GIS
I have GIS capability (through ArcGIS Pro, MapInfo and Accession), demonstrating mapped information such as journey times, environmental data, developments, public transport data, census data, segmentation profiles, and statistical data.
Site work, surveys and safety
I have site work experience, including safety assessments on live motorways; finding, recording and addressing site constraints; attending site meetings at live construction sites; I am a professionally qualified CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card holder; I have excellent health and safety awareness and have contributed to RAMS and road safety audits in the past. I assess technical drawings to ensure any potential hazards are avoided or highlight risks to address.
I have undertaken a wide range of site surveys during my engineering career using specific instruments and instructions. This includes recording geotechnical samples on site, assessing traffic conditions and infrastructure from construction to decommissioning, orchestrating and conducting traffic counts using ANPR equipment, assessing ground conditions using trial pits. I have used laser scans of motorway bridges in CAD to assess clearance issues for carriageway widening.
Professional status
Having EngTech status with the ICE ( EngTech MICE 2016) and Fellow at the IHE (FIHE 2021), I apply my knowledge of sustainability; health, safety, and welfare; CDM; quality management; appreciate diversity; and understand my responsibilities as a designer, in all the work I do. I mentor technicians to successfully achieve EngTech status, review quarterly report content and provide guidance to meet objectives.
Collaboration
I work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate as part of a team and have experience within the public and private sector. I have managed technician team workloads, liaise with multiple design teams, departments, and offices to ensure productivity and collaboration. Log design decisions. Drawing issue record. Organise filing systems. Use Common Data Environments to ensure ISO/ BIM compliance, secure documentation, share information through joint ventures using Vault and Projectwise. Clash detection models to compare multiple design team’s work. Use Teams to exchange ideas, discuss progress, contribute, and listen to ideas. Use PDF Xchange/ Bluebeam to digitally record amendments and notes.
Graphics and photography
I have undertaken promotional marketing through photography skills and using Adobe software (InDesign/ Photoshop/Lightroom/ Illustrator) to create graphic concepts and published designs. Contributing to projects that influence travel behaviour for businesses, schools, universities, making people aware of sustainable transport methods.
